O'BRIEN (THOMOND) II

The family O'Brien descends from Brian mac Cennetig ´Boru´ High King of Ireland (* 941 + 1014). His descendants ruled the Kingdom of Thomond, present counties of Clare and Limerick. Murrough O'Brien, King of Thomond (+ 1551), renounced his sovereignty in favor of Henry VIII King of England and was created on 1-7-1543 Earl of Thomond and Baron Inchiquin. He was succeeded by his son as Baron Inchiquin and by his nephew as Earl of Thomond (extinct 1741). Murrough O'Brien, 6.Baron Inchiquin (1614-1674) was created on 21-10-1654 Earl of Inchiquin. Murrough O'Brien, 5.Earl of Inchiquin (1726-1808) was created Marquess of Thomond on 29-12-1800. His line died out in 1855, after which a descendant of the 1.Earl of Thomond and Baron Inchiquin inherited the title Baron Inchiquin.

O´BRIEN (THOMOND) I
