MOUNTBATTEN OF BURMA

Lord Louis Mountbatten (1900-1979), last Viceroy of India in 1947, was created on 23-8-1946 Viscount and on 28-10-1947 Earl Mountbatten of Burma. Through the marriage of the 2.Countess Mountbatten of Burma with Lord Brabourne, the title has ended up in the family Knatchbull, which descends from a Thomas Knatchbull who lived in the mid 15th century. His descendant Norton Knatchbull (+ 1685) was created a Baronet on 4-8-1641. His descendant Edward Knatchbull-Hugessen (1829-1893) was created Baron Brabourne of Brabourne on 26-5-1880.
