BELMONTE II

On 5-3-1619 Don Orazio Ravaschieri Fieschi (+ 1645) was created Principe de Belmonte in the Peerage of Naples. Orazio descended from Ugone Fieschi, who represented the Emperor of the West in Liguria from the earliest years of the 11th century. The Fieschi were appointed Counts of Lavagna and Imperial Vicars General of Tuscany and of the coast of Genoa by Holy Roman Emperor Henry the Holy in 1010, later providing two popes to the Church, Innocent IV and Hadrian V. Known as 'Gerardo Ravascherius', the 8th count of Lavagna adopted the name Ravaschieri Fieschi. His descendants became the royal bankers of the Kingdom of Naples.
Orazio´s son Daniele died childless in 1685, making his sister Anna Maria Ravaschieri Fieschi the 3.Principessa di Belmonte. She was married to Don Cosimo Squarciafico Pinelli, 3.Duca di Acerenza. Their granddaughter Donna Anna Francesco Pinelli, 6.Principessa di Belmonte, married Don Antonio Pignatelli (1685-1771), who was created a Reichsfürst on 9-9-1726. His line died out with Donna Paolina Francesca Pignatelli y Aimerich-Pinelli-Ravaschieri, 10.Principessa di Belmonte, Duchessa di Acerenza (1824-1911), who married in 1838 Angelo Granito, 5.Marchese di Castellabate, bringing the title in this family.
