DE LIGUORO

On 9-5-1190 a Marco de Ligorio was mentioned as a consul of Naples. The unbroken line of descent starts however with Gaspare de Liguoro in the 16th century. Through the marriage in 1703 of Don Francesco de Liguoro with Virginia Raitano, widow of Don Carlo Bartirotti d'Aragona, 4.Principe di Presicce, the family acquired this princely title (created in 1624). However their children died without issue and before their father. Francesco sold the title in 1731 to Pietro Peiro. In 1764 his distant relative Don Nicola de Liguoro bought the title for his eldest son Alfonso. The last male representative of this line died in 1982.
Other princely titles that the family has held are Pollica and Montefalcone. Pollica was created in 1722 for Don Giuseppe Capano. In 1763 Don Ercole de Liguoro married Donna Marianna Capano. This line died out around 1865. Don Carmine de Liguoro married in 1862 Donna Francesca Andreotti, 9.Principessa di Montefalcone (created 7-12-1699 for Don Nicola Coppola). Their grandsons Don Fedele and Don Paolo Marigliano were the last princes of Montefalcone.
