JOHNSON

With the election of Boris Johnson as Mayor of London in 2008 a new wave of politicians with aristocratic connections entered British politics, as he was followed by the duo David Cameron and Nick Clegg. Boris Johnson descends from Prince Paul of Württemberg, a son of Friedrich I the first king of this state in the south of Germany and Auguste Princess of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, a great granddaughter of George II King of Great Britain and Ireland. But it is not only this royal ancestry that makes Boris’ ancestors interesting, because he descends as well from Ali Kemal Bey, Turkish minister of interior, the Russian-jewish palaeographer Elias Avery Lowe and the founder of the YMCA, Sir George Williams. His wife is the daughter of late BBC journalist Sir Charles Wheeler and his Sikh wife Dip Singh.
